The Lebanon Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Volunteer Fire Fighter. 

 

Applications may be obtained from the East Lebanon Fire Station on Depot Road any Tuesday evening from 7pm till 9pm or by contacting Captain Daniel Roy 207-457-3922.

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

 

Protects life and property by performing fire fighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention duties. Maintains fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities.

 

The Fire Fighters are hired through the established hiring process and recommended to the Fire Chief for final approval. The position is a Volunteer position with a yearly stipend based on the number of calls, meetings, and trainings the member attends.  All Fire fighters are town employees.  Fire Fighters have the responsibility of protection of life and property from the hazards of fire or other hazardous environments.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

 

Works under the close supervision of a Fire Lieutenant or Crew Chief. May be assigned to report to a Fire Captain.

 

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience:

 

(A) High school diploma or GED equivalent with no specialized training.

(B) No specific work experience level required.

(C) Completion of the Fire Fighter 1 Training Program within one year of appointment.

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

(A) Working knowledge of driver safety; working knowledge of first aid;

(B) Ability to successfully learn the operation of the listed tools and equipment; Ability to learn to apply standard firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention techniques; Ability to perform strenuous or peak physical effort during emergency, training or station maintenance activities for prolonged periods of time under conditions of extreme heights, intense heat, cold or smoke; Ability to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations; Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the general public; Ability to meet the special requirements listed below.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

(A) Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older at time of appointment; and reside within 20 minutes of the East Lebanon Fire Station on Depot Road.

(B) Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of appointment, a valid State Driver's License without any major traffic offenses;

(C) No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years

(D) Ability to read and write the English language; and

(E) Ability to meet Departmental physical standards.

 

SELECTION GUIDELINES

 

Formal application; review of education and experience; appropriate testing and interviews; oral interview; background check; drug screening; final selection and pre-appointment medical examination.

NOTE: Appointees will be subject to completion of a standard six month probationary period.
